Cleveland Indians Ready for the Upcoming Season
The Cleveland Indians GM is going for a mixture of talented veterans and young upcoming players. The Indians have signed veterans Joe Mauer, Adam LaRoche, Ian Kinsler, and David Wright. They signed young players like Evan Gattis, Derek Norris, Yasmany Tomas and Joe Panik.
At catcher Evan Gattis and Derek Norris will rotate. Both had decent years last year and the Indians are hoping they can both stay healthy this year. Gattis has really good power and will be able to also rotate in the Outfield.
Mauer has a solid 2013 batting average which was over .300 and stayed healthy for most of the season, he is coming off a down year in 2014 where he only hit .270, the Indians were able to snag him for 2.5 Million so he would be a steal if he can produce like he did in 2013. Adam LaRoche is coming off one of his best years where he hit .259 with 26 Home Runs and 92 RBIs, the Indians are hoping his age doesn't slow him down and he can continue to produce. With both First Baseman on the north side of 30, GM Ryan Anness will look to add a solid up and coming 1st Baseman in the draft this year.
Ian Kinsler will anchor 2nd base for the Indians, at age 32 he continues to produce and will look to help teach his backup Joe Panik who is still extremely young and the Indians are hoping continues to improve.
Third Base will belong to David Wright. GM Ryan Anness took a risk signing him after 2 down years due to health but thinks 2015 will be his year to bounce back and lead the Indians. David Wright was also selected by his coaches and teammates to be the Captain of the 2015 squad. He will also help teach and lead the new Cuban power source Yasmany Tomas. GM Ryan Anness had this to say about Tomas "we have scouted him and think he will be a great player for us the next 5 years. We were willing to take a risk paying him 8 million a year because we like his durability, his ability to play multiple positions, and his attitude. He could make or break the team this year".
GM Ryan Anness will continue to try to make smart signing and hope to put together a well balanced team that will compete for many years to come!
